We recognize that respect for human rights of all people connected to the KAKEN Group is fundamental to pursuing our management philosophy and contributing to sustainable social development. We also acknowledge that our corporate activities may impact human rights. Therefore, we declare our commitment to human rights in the KAKEN Charter of Corporate Behavior and the KAKEN Corporate Code of Conduct. Furthermore, the KAKEN Group has established the Human Rights Policy (hereinafter referred to as "this Policy") to define what will implement to fulfill our responsibility to respect human rights in our corporate activities.
1. Basic Approach To Human Rights
In conducting our corporate activities, the KAKEN Group complies with all laws and regulations related to human rights and respects international standards and fundamental principles such as the following:
- The Universal Declaration of Human Rights,
- The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and
- The Declaration on Fundamental Principals and Rights at Work from International Labour Organization.
In cases where the laws and regulations of countries and regions where we conduct corporate activities do not align with internationally recognized human rights, we will seek ways to maximize our respect for international human rights principles.
2. Scope Of Application
This Policy applies to all officers, directors and employees of the KAKEN Group. We also except our business partners to commit to respecting human rights.
3. Human rights due diligence
The KAKEN Group will conduct human rights due diligence on domestic and international business partners to identify and assess potential or actual negative human rights impacts arising from our corporate activities.
4. Human Rights Issues Related To Our Business
To clinical trial participants and patients
In conducting clinical trials, we respect the human right of participants, including the dignity of life, right to self-determination, and protection of privacy and personal information. We will appropriately obtain informed consent from clinical trial volunteers (and from their proxy consenters, if applicable).
As the products provided by the KAKEN Group are directly linked to people's lives and health, we will maintain a stable supply of high-quality products. We will collect and analyze safety information about our products and provide this information to healthcare professionals and patients as appropriate.
To members of society
The KAKEN Group conducts corporate activities with the various business partners. We also require our business partners to respect human rights and will engage in dialogue with them about human rights as necessary.
In areas where we have offices and factories, we respect the human rights of local residents and implement measures to reduce and monitor impacts on the neighboring areas and environment, including noise, water and soil pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions.
To employees
"Joy of Employees" is essential to achieve "Joy of Patients" and "Joy of Society". The KAKEN Group provides rewarding work environment by respecting the human rights, dignity, and individuality of our employees through measures such as prohibiting harassment and discrimination, managing appropriate working hours, ensuring minimum wages, maintaining occupational safety and health, respecting freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining, and prohibiting forced labor and child labor.
5. Education And Training
The Kaken Group will continuously provide education and awareness training to its officers, directors and employees to deepen their understanding of the relationship between human rights and corporate activities, and to ensure respect for human rights.
6. Information Disclosure
The KAKEN Group will continuously disclosure this Policy and our actions to promote respect for human rights through the website and other channels.
7. Remediation
The KAKEN Group strives not only to avoid human rights violations but also prevent contributing to such violations. If it becomes clear that the KAKEN Group has caused or contributed to negative impacts on human rights, we will work to remedy these impacts through appropriate procedures.
8. Responsible Executive Officer
The responsibility for implementing this Policy rests with the President of KAKEN Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.
